Het Rijksmuseum x BEYOND WALLS

EXHIBITION FILMSERIES ‘AFTERLIVES OF REVOLUSI’

On display in the exhibition REVOLUSI! at Het Rijksmuseum. February - June 2022

The Rijksmuseum invited Beyond Walls to develop and produce ten personal film portraits of a diversity of descendants of the Revolusi. These portraits were part of the exhibition Revolusi! Indonesia independent by the Rijksmuseum.

BEYOND WALLS stands for centering the diversity of lived experiences beyond the dominant narratives of nation-states. This approach was reflected in the concept and selection of the stories.

From Sumatra, Java and Bali to the Moluccas, Sulawesi and The Netherlands. The ten personal stories show the diversity of lived experiences and impact of the Revolusi on people’s lives, beyond the grand narratives of nation-states.

For BEYOND WALLS it is key to co-create and collaborate with present-day Indonesia throughout the whole proces.

We collaborated with filmmakers Lexy Rambadeta, Rikky Muhammad Fajar and Novindra Dhiratara Kiran. Production crew: Bagaskara Niartanaya, Venna Agniasari, Yusuf Pambudi, Valentinus Rommy and Felix Dody. On Bali in collaboration with filmmakers Peter Mariouw Smit and Mike Wennekes and interviewer Ni Ketut Sudiani. With special thanks to Anne-Lot Hoek. Production crew Netherlands: Beyond Walls, Danny La Haye (soundscapes), Feba Sukmana (translation), Lara Nuberg (interviews NL), Pim Hermans (camera), David Karels (camera), Maarten Wolff (camera).
