Kutika: Navigating by the Stars
Inspired by ancestral Bugis knowledge, this work by WANUA artist Hirah Sanada draws from Kutika—an ancient Bugis guide to interpreting signs and making decisions in rhythm with the natural world. As a guide it was also used by sailors to read natural signs and make decisions in harmony with the cosmos. Based on a story shared by Louie Buana, Hirah reimagines Kutika through her own visual language, blending astronomy, intuition, and memory into a personal interpretation of this ancient navigational wisdom.
